Spring cleaning always includes spray paint for the Harris family. Along with the beautiful landscape comes storm clouds, pollen, allergies, and the green algae that grow on anything and everything that is left outside. Here are a few items we spring clean at home, including time and cost:
Our darling iron table and chairs are over fifty years old and have been painted every color of the rainbow! Every four or five years, we wash them with soap and water and give them a new coat of lively paint for a fresh look. Just another way to feel new again.
I prefer a textured RUST-OLEUM spray paint for iron furniture because it hides flaws and covers evenly and quickly. I have a small tool that hooks to the can and makes it very easy to paint without your hand getting tired or cramped.
The first coat on the table and all three chairs took about 45 minutes and the second coat for around thirty minutes. I used three cans of spray paint and the furniture looks as good as new!
FYI: I also use this paint for plant pots and other outdoor decorative items.
Time: less than two hours
Our deck rug has been outside for 13 years!! As every year, the rug was solid green due to the algae and I wasn’t sure if it would come clean this time. I sprinkled the rug with Pine Sol and used the power washer with plain water and guess what? Sparkly clean!
Time: 30 minutes
Our deck was painted four years ago with a high-quality deck paint from Sherwin Williams that cleans easily and is a protectant.
Prior to that time, I tried other paint products that did not last and had poor results. I simply used water to clean (de-green) the deck and it looks amazing!
Time: 2 ½ hours
I feel overwhelmed every spring when I look outside and see everything that needs to be done. But the truth is, I accomplished most of the tasks by myself in one evening! Our old outdoor items hold many cherished memories and take minimal time and money to make them last a lifetime. Awesome!
