The Haygoods Christmas Show rocks around more than the Christmas tree. If you’ve seen this show, I know you will agree with me, the Haygoods are rocking’ Branson, Missouri. This family of 5 brothers and one sister performs live on stage three times a week to a sold-out crowd.
Whenever you see a talented group like this, it is common to think, oh, I know what they should do. I thought of several songs they should add to their repertoire. Let’s talk about why they should add a few numbers.
Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees
Holy Toledo! This two-hour explosion of talent is one show-stopper after another. There’s a reason why Timothy Haygood says the first half of the show is the Haygood weight loss plan. They run up and down the stage while singing, dancing, and of course… playing instruments. Sometimes each individual person plays multiple instruments in one song. This is a very physical performance, and as Robin Gibbs tells us, “I’m a dancin’ man, and I just can’t lose.”
Give Them Something To Talk About by Bonnie Raitt
As I said before, The Haygoods Christmas Show is one show-stopper after another. There is not one aspect of the show that they have not drilled home. Their vocals are beautiful, their talent with instruments is off the charts, and just for giggles, they throw in showmanship like…sure, let’s do that too!
There’s fire, laser lights, curtain drops, and just because they can, Michael flies in upside down playing the guitar because of course… he’s “Dancing on the Ceiling”.
My group was sitting in the balcony for this show, providing a bird’s-eye view of the audience. At any point in the show, there were HUNDREDS of cellphones trying to capture the moment. Ya, they were on social media, and they had ‘something to talk about’!
Crocodile Rock by Elton John
The Haygoods do a phenomenal job of sharing who they are and where they came from. They are Ozark Mountain homegrown and proud of it. Their father loved music and vinyl records and passed that down to all of the children. They have now been playing together in a Branson show for over 30 years.
Each year they refresh, make huge changes to their show and push themselves to be the best at what they do. (and it shows)
I loved the expression on the faces of the guests as The Haygoods went down memory lane. There were a ton of people that appeared to be identifying with them as they bobbed their heads up and down.
But my favorite was a comment I heard from a lady nearby. “How do people raise kids like that? I would’ve loved to have had that life!” It’s obvious this family has clung to each other through thick and thin. I have a lot of respect for that.
Of course, this trip down memory lane is only punctuated with incredible music and dancing. Elton John described this moment when he sang, “When your feet just can’t keep still. I never knew me a better time, and I guess I never will.”
Truth Be Told
Truth be told, this family doesn’t need our help with song choices. They have 30 years in entertainment, and they have it figured out. During the regular season, they take a variety of genres, add The Haygood factor, and then sell out nearly every single show. During the Christmas season, they take the best of that show, add in the holidays, and, again, sell out nearly every single show. Here are a few of my favorite song choices they made for the 2022 holiday season.
Mary, Did You Know
Holy Toledo! This slower-paced, calm holiday favorite took the show from rockin’ to a place of peaceful reverie. You could’ve heard a pin drop, except, of course, the vocals were unbelievable!!! I think this was my favorite moment. Partly because it was so heartfelt, they had spent over an hour showing us what they could do with all their bells and whistles. Then, it was like the world stopped for a moment, and we all got real as we thought about the question… Mary, did you know? I think the answer is yes!
There were similar moments throughout the night with “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” and “Oh Night Divine”.
There are so many things that this group does right. The costumes, the lighting, the music choice, the timing, the comedy, the props, and the most amazing part, the energy level of the talent.
Wrapping It Up With The Haygoods!
I’ll just say it. The Haygoods Christmas Show is a roller coaster. It takes you to the top, drops you off the edge, then pulls you back up again. I’ve seen their show many times over the year, and this is by far the best they have ever done. I can promise you, The Haygoods is one Branson Show you do NOT want to miss. Hold your breath for the underwater part because they will take your breath away!
