Tickets are on sale for Disney’s biggest bash of the year, Mickeys Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! From September 2nd – October 31st, the entire park and cast is transformed into a Halloween boo-nanza. The party begins after the park closes at 7:00 p.m. and lasts until midnight. This is a special ticketed event and the following is included in the ticket:

Trick or Treating

Regardless of age, everyone gets a bag at the gate of Magic Kingdom and goes Trick or Treating! Cast members are placed at stations throughout the park with fifty-five gallons drums filled with candy. No, not just dumb dumbs or tootsie rolls, but yummy chocolate! On our trip, the cast members were giving ‘two hand scoops’ full of candy which quickly filled our bags. The lines were not long but it would not have mattered because after two stations, our bags were full of yumminess.

Costumes

People young and old dress up for the party and the creativity of the family-themed costumes is amazing. Our favorite costumes were a couple in their fifties dressed up as Mary Poppins and Burt going to the county fair, and their costumes looked like they were taken directly from the movie. The rest of their family, adults down to babies in strollers, were dressed as the dancing penguins and they were adorable! Disney has specific costume guidelines which can only be worn during the ticketed party and not during regular park hours. Check the rules and start planning your extravagant Halloween costuming!

Happy Hallo-Wishes

Cinderella’s castle turns into a ghost house while scary villains like Ursula the sea witch, Maleficent, Jafar, Cruella De Vil, and Oogie Boogie try and take over the haunting fireworks presentation. Eerie sounds from several Disney classics, including the Haunted Mansion soundtrack, play as you watch the nighttime extravaganza.  Although it is a Halloween theme, the entertainment is not really scary and presented in such a way that the kids laugh, not cry!

Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular

Live performances at the stage show in front of Cinderella’s castle are a tradition at the Magic Kingdom. The three mischievous Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus, along with other Disney villains and dancers, take control of the stage for a special Halloween performance. Go early in order to acquire seating with a good view.

Halloween Dance Parties

Dance parties are held all year in Tomorrowland and somehow, my crew always finds extra energy to dance in the street with the Disney characters.  During the Halloween party, of course, characters like Cruella De Vil and the wicked stepmother and the two awful stepsisters must make an appearance and they are hilarious. There are two locations for the dance parties during the event; one in Tomorrowland by the People Mover and the other in Frontierland by the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon. The parties provide wonderful photo opportunities that you will not want to miss!

Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade

The Headless Horseman leads the parade down Main Street, starring the cast of the Haunted Mansion. We were waiting by the train station for the parade to start when Madame Tremaine and her two selfish daughters came out to play. They danced in the street with us for twenty minutes and then stood by and watched the parade. Well, actually, they hid behind us and yelled and teased the characters marching by, who then returned the taunts. The Halloween parade is action-packed and draws the guests into the excitement!

Fall colors and decorations adorn the park, pumpkin and apple scents from the food vendors fill the air, and villain merchandise is available in the stores. It must be time for the Halloween party! Tickets are limited and sell out quickly on certain days, so make your reservations early. During the ticketed celebration there are smaller crowds in the park, shorter waiting times for the rides, and more opportunity to meet your favorite characters.

Mickeys Not-So-scary Halloween party is NOT scary. It’s fun and interactive.  If you can say relaxed in the same sentence with Disney I would say it is a more relaxed version of a Disney vacation and an incredible way to celebrate fall!
