My entire family is crazy about Disney! We love Disney music, Disney movies, and especially going on Disney vacations as a large group. However, budgeting for sixteen people is challenging so we save like mad and look for every penny-pinching discount we can find.  Surprisingly, one of my favorite Disney discounts turned into one of the most amazing DIY Disney birthday gifts ever!

Penny Pinching Discount

The Target REDcard (debit or credit) may be used to purchase $50.00 or $100.00 Disney gift cards in the store or online at a 5% discount. For example, the REDcard savings on a $4,000 Disney trip would equal $200.00 with a stack of forty or eighty gift cards, depending on the increment.

Reduce the Stack

Once the Disney gift cards are bought, they can be combined online at the Disney Gift Card site with a $1,000.00 limit per card. Making a payment is certainly easier with fewer cards!

Save the Cards

The Disney phone representatives always remind guests to save their Disney gift cards because if there is a problem, the cards will be credited. I have never had any trouble but I always hold onto my cards just in case!

Years Later

Several of our Disney vacations have come and gone and my recycle sack is full of Disney gift cards. The stack brings back fond memories of smiles, giggles, and magical moments we have experienced on our adventures but really have no purpose other than taking up space in a sack.

Pick It!

Our oldest son, Jesse, plays guitar in several bands and performs multiple times per week. Recently, Papa found the coolest tool online that would make Jesse happy and make use of our old Disney gift cards. A guitar pick punch! Our plan was to knock them all out in one night while watching TV. Wrongo bongo! Depending on the choice of pattern, it is possible to make six picks per card and we had so many that it took weeks! Although it took time, the picks are awesome and free if you don’t count the vacation. LOL.

Pickin’ the Punch

Be sure and buy a quality pick punch, especially if you have a lot of cards.  The one we chose was $40.00 and made about 1,000 picks. On average, one card will make four picks which mean approximately 320 picks per 80 Disney gift cards. That’s a big DIY Disney Birthday Gift.

The Perfect Gift

The homemade guitar picks tie everything together that we love: music, family, Disney, and traveling. I suppose if we add ‘woo pig sooie’ into the mix, life will be perfect!
